Be an Amico and Practice for Free

Tutorino has partnered with West Toronto Support Services to bring you an exciting new one-of-a-kind learning opportunity - The Amico Method.

West Toronto Support Services runs a Friendly Visiting program that matches isolated clients (often seniors) who have little or no opportunity to participate in activities outside of their home with volunteers who visit for at least an hour a week to provide a bit of company.

The senior may not have other family, or their family may be having difficulty as primary caregiver and may be requesting help. Volunteers are paired female with female, male with male and are also paired based on interests and languages. That's where tutorino comes in!

The catchment area for WTSS is the west end of Toronto south of St. Clair and many of the clients speak Italian only. So tutorino students willing to donate an hour a week of their time not only make a huge difference to a lonely senior, they also dramatically improve their Italian - for free! We call it The Amico Method.

Volunteers must be willing to commit to visiting a homebound senior at his or her residence at least one hour a week to build a long-term friendship. Activities might include reading, talking, cooking, playing cards or working on a crafts project. WTSS provides TTC tokens if requested.
