Here's an event organized by tutorino staff member Filippo and yours truly - an Italian movie night all'aperto, in the open, sotto le stelle, under the stars, on the roof of Filippo's loft at Tecumseth and Niagara (not too far from King and Bathurst). No charge and you get free homemade pizza too. Just bring a lawn chair and your own grape juice. Friday August 6. Show starts at 9 but be at Filippo's at 8:30 for the pizza. This one sounds really good - the Orchestra di Piazza Vittorio, a collective of world musicians based in Rome ("tutte le strade portano a Roma"), will be playing at Harbourfront (Sirius Stage) on Saturday August 7 from 8 to 10 PM. Free admission. For more info.

It's ka-ching time for the merchants of Little Italy again - yep Friday June 18 to Sunday June 20, Taste of Little Italy on College between Bathurst and Shaw. 6 PM to 2 AM Friday, 12 PM to 2 AM Saturday and 12 PM to 10 PM Sunday. A chance to experience all things Italian, like mango chicken from Urban Thai or jerk chicken from the Midtown. Not to mention Cuban jazz from Ruben Vazquez and friends. Do check out Claudio Santaluce though - Friday from 7 to 10:30, Saturday from 6 to 10:30 and Sunday from 6 to 9:30 near Euclid.

italian theatrical production - animelle! 1 euro per pound

A theatre company from Milan calling itself Compagnia Kor will be performing a play (in English) about prostitution called Animelle! 1 Euro a Pound on Friday May 28 and Saturday May 29 at 8 PM and Sunday May 30 at 2 PM at the Robert Gill Theatre on the 3rd floor of the Koffler Student Centre, U of T (College and St George).

Tickets are $30 ($25 for students with a valid student ID) and can be purchased by calling the Robert Gill Theatre Box Office at 416-978-7986.

Serena Farnocchia, the Italian soprano who's been raising eyebrows around the world, will be giving a free concert of Italian arias and art songs on Tuesday May 18 from 12 PM to 1 PM in the Richard Bradshaw Amphitheatre at the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts.

Yes! It's almost time for the Olympics of bellezza, the Miss Italia nel Mondo beauty pageant for Italians living outside Italy (not to be confused with the Miss CHIN bikini contest). Beautiful ladies of Italian origin from all over the world vie for the coveted crown once a year at a mega pageant in Italy. So far an italocanadese has never won. Last year's winner was from Moldavia.

Before the mega pageant countries choose their individual beauty ambassador through a series of smaller pageants at the national or even state or provincial level.
